Tasting Notes

Nose: While this is a Japanese single malt, the influence of American oak (often ex-bourbon barrels) is evident alongside mizunara. Expect a complex bouquet of dried fruits – ripe apricots, figs, and sultanas – mingling with delicate floral notes of cherry blossom and rose. A hint of sandalwood, incense, and a subtle spiciness, reminiscent of nutmeg and ginger, underscores the deeper fruit and wood notes. There's also a touch of creamy vanilla and a very faint whisper of smoke, hinting at the distillery's broad range of cask finishes.

Palate: The entry is remarkably smooth and velvety, coating the tongue with flavors of sweet honey, baked apples, and ripe peaches. The fruit intensifies, evolving into more exotic notes like lychee and a delicate citrus zest. The characteristic mizunara spice becomes more prominent here – a gentle, almost peppery warmth with hints of cinnamon and clove. Underlying this is a rich, satisfying oak presence that isn't overpowering, leading to a subtle milk chocolate and almond sweetness.

Finish: Long, gracefully lingering, and beautifully balanced. The fruit notes slowly recede, leaving behind a delightful interplay of mizunara spice, a touch of dark chocolate bitterness, and a faint, sweet vanilla. The oak presence is persistent but refined, with a gentle warming sensation that invites contemplation. Hints of dried orange peel and a delicate, almost ethereal floral note drift on the palate for several minutes.
