Tasting Notes
Nose: A profound aromatic journey begins with rich, dark dried fruits – figs, dates, and plump raisins – interwoven with candied orange peel and a delicate hint of roasted almonds. Deeper breaths reveal warm baking spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of cloves, underpinned by luxurious polished oak and a subtle cigar box ester. A distant whisper of dark chocolate and espresso grounds adds complexity.
Palate: The entry is immediately robust and mouth-coating, a testament to its cask strength. A wave of opulent sherry influence dominates, delivering concentrated dried fruit sweetness – stewed plums, dark cherry preserves, and sticky toffee. This is beautifully balanced by a peppery spice kick, intertwined with roasted coffee beans, dark cocoa nibs, and a delightful bitter orange zest. The European oak provides a firm structure with notes of old leather, rich tobacco, and a faint minerality, hinting at its long maturation.
Finish: The finish is exceptionally long, warming, and profoundly elegant. It gradually fades, leaving echoes of dark fruit and lingering spice, particularly star anise and ginger. A delightful interplay of drying oak tannins and sweet, nutty sherry notes persists, evolving into a pleasant bitter chocolate and a smoky hint of cured tobacco leaf.
