Tasting Notes
Nose: A profound and complex bouquet immediately announces itself, dominated by rich caramel and toasted sugar, evolving into deeper notes of dark chocolate and espresso. A generous wave of dried dark fruits, particularly fig and raisin, intertwines with baking spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, and a whisper of clove. Underlying these are hints of leather, old oak, and a subtle floral sweetness, testament to its high proof and unadulterated nature.
Palate: The palate arrives with an assertive yet remarkably smooth entry, a testament to its masterfully integrated high proof. An initial burst of sweet vanilla and sticky toffee gives way to a decadent symphony of rich maple syrup, dark cherry, and stewed prunes. The oak influence is substantial but well-managed, presenting as seasoned wood, pipe tobacco, and a gentle char. Peppery spice, including black pepper and a touch of cayenne, provides a delightful counterpoint, creating a vibrant mouthfeel that coats the entire palate.
Finish: The finish is exceptionally long, warm, and evolving. It lingers with echoes of dark chocolate and roasted nuts, slowly fading into a sweet caramel and lingering tobacco note. The complex interplay of spice and oak persists, leaving a pleasant warmth and a satisfying dryness that encourages another sip. A subtle, yet persistent, leathery undertone rounds out this magnificent conclusion.
About the Distillery
Blanton's, produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, is credited with introducing the world's first single barrel bourbon in 1984. Colonel Albert B. Blanton, a visionary distillery manager, selected choice barrels from Warehouse H for his private reserve, a tradition honored today with Blanton's Single Barrel bottlings.
