Tasting Notes
Nose: A sophisticated and inviting bouquet opens with classic Blanton's notes of sweet caramel, vanilla bean, and a hint of butterscotch. Delicate orange peel and dried apricot emerge, intertwined with a subtle floral aroma and a whisper of toasted oak and rye spice.
Palate: The entry is smooth and medium-bodied, immediately delivering a rich wave of brown sugar and honey. This quickly evolves into layers of crème brûlée, dark cherry, and baking spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of allspice. The rye characteristic provides a pleasant underlying peppery kick, balanced by a creamy texture and a faint nuttiness from the oak.
Finish: The finish is long, warm, and graceful. Sweet oak tannins linger, accompanied by notes of dried fruit, particularly fig and plum. A gentle spice dissipates slowly, leaving behind a satisfying warmth and a final echo of vanilla and caramel.
About the Distillery
Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon is produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery, one of the oldest continually operating distilleries in the United States. Its history dates back to 1773, though the 'Old Fire Copper' (O.F.C.) distillery was established in 1869. Blanton's is credited as the world's first single barrel bourbon, an innovation introduced by Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee in 1984, honoring former distillery president Colonel Albert B. Blanton.
