Initial notes of dried fruit (apricot, fig, date) mingle with delicate floral undertones, reminiscent of jasmine and honeysuckle. Underlying hints of seasoned oak, aged leather, and a whisper of dark chocolate emerge, all gracefully balanced by a subtle sweet nuttiness, perhaps roasted almonds. A faint wisp of incense smoke adds another layer of intrigue.

Palate: The palate is remarkably smooth and opulent, with a velvety texture that cocoons the tongue. A burst of sweet vanilla and toffee immediately greets, swiftly followed by a delightful interplay of dark berries (blackberry, cherry cordials) and spiced shortbread. The 21 years in cask have imparted a gentle, warming wood spice – think nutmeg, cinnamon, and a hint of clove – without any overt bitterness. There's a subtle chewiness, almost like fruitcake, with a developing nutty character and a touch of savory umami.

Finish: Long, exquisite, and evolving. The finish elegantly fades, leaving lingering notes of dark chocolate-covered espresso beans, dried stone fruits, and a harmonious balance of sweet oak and a faint, pleasing tobacco leaf. Its warmth is persistent, creating a memorable and contemplative aftertaste with a surprising freshness that belies its age, ending with a final whisper of spice.

https://takeyourpickliquors.com/products/unknown-nikka-17-year-taketsuru-pure-malt-whisky-86-proof-86-proof-750ml
